  • Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is one of the most famous classical composers of all time, writing 626 works despite his short life. He was born in Salzburg, Vienna in 1756. By the age of six, he was already visiting several countries in Europe and playing music for royalty. His father, Leopold Mozart, was the one who taught him music and other academic subjects. However, Wolfgang himself was very advanced for his age and is considered a prodigy. When he was five, he had memorized with ease a piece his sister, Nannerl, had been practicing earlier. One noteworthy thing regarding Mozart’s personality was his inappropriate humor. Several childish comments can be found written in the footnotes of his music. The music he mostly focused on were operas, which are what he is most famous for. When he was thirteen, he had already created a one-act opera called Bastien and Bastienne. A lot of Mozart’s music was actually commissioned. Many people did not like Mozart, but his reputation in Italy was quite positive, where he received a commission for an opera and was part of a knightly order by the Pope. This is when he wrote his first major operas: Mitridate, Ascanio in Alba, and Lucio Silla. One of his most well-known operas is called The Magic Flute, which is also one of his latest works, being premiered only a couple months before Mozart passed away. Wolfgang was quite a traveler. Italy was not the only place he visited. He also visited France and Germany. He passed away at the age of thirty-five in 1791. Within the last decade of his life, Mozart accomplished many things musically. Unfortunately, his last project, the Requiem, was left unfinished due to his death. However, even in his short life, he still managed to compose several musical masterpieces.
